This experimental shed was constructed over several years with the help of many friends and students. The straw bales are load-bearing on the front and rear walls, and the roof spans with a stress skin panel laminated from 2x lumber and plywood layers. Beams and columns of ash wood help transfer loads evenly to the straw bales below. The roof has varying soil depths from 8" at the front tapering to 2" at the low eave where gravel and a drainage pan pass water through the extended roof members. |
