Aerial view showing a friends home with solar electric panels, solar domestic hot water, and rain water harvesting. Making a conscious decision to reduce their footprint, they down sized their home from 2,000sf to 900sf and leveraged their lifestyle to become net zero energy. Over the balance of a year it produces as much electricity as it uses, heats its own hot water, and irrigates the yard with 100% captured rainwater. The home is kept cool in the hot summer with evaporative cooling and night flushing. The next improvements will include a solar thermal system to heat the home during the two coldest months of the year in Tucson, Arizona. The home has already achieved the 2030 and 2050 goals.
