The Avery House Condominium and Elks Lodge project combine social and environmental goals with the economic goals of real estate development. Since their inception in 1937, the Ann Arbor Elks
IBPOE #322 have been a key component in the local African American community with their motto of Charity, Justice, Brotherly Love, with Fidelity. The plan for their 2.5 acre site overlooking the Huron River and downtown Ann Arbor will allow for the expansion of their programs in an enlarged and accessible new lodge. Environmental benefits of the project include restoring the ecology of this highly disturbed site, managing stormwater, providing dedicated public access to a 32-acre urban park, and exemplifying best practices in sustainable site and building design.
